The #World #Cup, #Simpsons-style
The Simpsons will celebrate its 25th birthday in 2014, a landmark which will make it the longest-running American television series in history. To celebrate, its creators have decided to take some inspiration from the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
20th Century Fox has recently announced the launch of a campaign backed by a new line of products created in collaboration with some of the most famous football clubs in the world, which will go on sale to the public in 2014. FC Barcelona, FC Zenit Saint Petersburg, Corinthians and Boca Juniors will all get the Simpsons branding treatment. The merchandise for each team involved will also include ‘Simpsonised’ versions of their players.
The studio and the creators of The Simpsons also have a special episode in the works, which will be linked to the World Cup and is scheduled to be aired in the United States in March 2014.
The World Cup-inspired Simpsons episode will be titled «You Don’t Have to Live Like a Referee» and will feature Homer being given a job as a World Cup referee after Lisa praises his honesty in a speech at the Springfield High School junior team pitch. The episode follows the popular family on their journey to Brazil, only to find that Homer’s integrity is put to the test by one of the slickest gangsters in the football match-fixing business.
